Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE) is the statutory safeguarding guidance for schools and colleges in England—and staff understanding is critical to creating a culture where children are protected, concerns are acted on early, and safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility.

This course provides a clear, practical, and role-relevant learning pathway for all staff working in educational settings. It translates KCSIE expectations into day-to-day actions: recognising indicators of abuse and neglect, responding professionally to disclosures, recording concerns accurately, and following appropriate internal and external reporting routes. It also strengthens organisational safeguarding practice by covering management responsibilities, safer recruitment, online safeguarding, data protection, and how to respond when concerns involve adults or peer-on-peer behaviour.

Alongside core safeguarding principles, the programme includes GDPR essentials for education—helping learners handle personal and safeguarding information lawfully, securely, and proportionately—and a dedicated online safety unit focused on identifying digital risk and taking confident action.

This Course comes with the following sections:

Unit 01: Safeguarding Basics

Build strong foundations in safeguarding and child protection, including what safeguarding means in education, recognising signs of harm, responding appropriately, and taking action on wider concerns.

Unit 02: Safeguarding Information for All Staff

Focuses on what staff must know and do under KCSIE—what to look for, what action to take, and how to respond when concerns arise.

Unit 03: The Management of Safeguarding

Explains safeguarding leadership responsibilities and how effective governance and management systems support safe practice across the organisation.

Unit 04: Keeping Children Safe Online

A practical unit on online safeguarding risks and protective action—covering warning signs, reporting routes, and the legal context of your role.

Unit 05: GDPR in Education

Clarifies data protection in education with a safeguarding lens—lawful handling, confidentiality, and information sharing when children may be at risk.

Unit 06: Safer Recruitment in Education

A comprehensive safer recruitment pathway that covers pre-employment checks, vetting decisions, managing visitors and partners, induction protections, and building a culture of vigilance.

Unit 07: Allegations of Abuse Made Against Teachers and Staff

Guides learners through duties, considerations, and appropriate handling processes when concerns relate to staff conduct.

Unit 08: Child-on-Child Sexual Violence and Sexual Harassment

Covers what education settings must understand, how to respond to reports, and how to ensure a safe and consistent ongoing response.
